Personal inspects electrical installations on Line 9 of the Mexico City metro
Mexico City’s subway line 9 needed an inspection of its electrical installations, as part of its routine safety measures. Officials from the city’s Transportation System and Collective Transport (STC) led the inspection, and a handful of technical personnel from different companies accompanied them.
The STC officials inspected the electrical installations of the line from Pantitlán station to Ciudad Universitaria station. Specifically, the check covers lighting, power supplies, contact wire, and power cables. The inspection lasted eight hours and finished up around 8 pm.
According to the STC, these routine inspections are a significant part of ensuring total and absolute safety for metro users. They have plans for inspection of electrical installations on the three other lines.
The metro line 9, inaugurated in 2012, runs from Pantitlán station to Observatorio station, covering the southwest of Mexico City. It comprises 12 stations, two transfer hubs (Jamaica and Tacubaya), and spans 18 kilometres.
The STC assures that its personnel are always capable of handling potential emergencies and that they keep communication channels open with any external authorities required. This inspection guarantees excellent service and the safety of its users.
Even as the world knows the Mexico City metro for its fast, efficient, and economical transportation system, the recent accidents have taken a toll on its reputation. In 2021, two accidents in line 12, one of which resulted in the tragic death of 26 people and over 70 injured, led to concern from the public regarding the city’s transportation sector’s safety.
The new wave of inspections stands as part of efforts to ensure that such incidents never happen again and that passengers can expect a state-of-the-art transport system, guaranteeing their well-being, safety and security at all times.
