Israel and Hamas Both Committed International Crimes
Recent conflicts between Israel and Hamas have once again ignited a debate about the legality of the actions taken by both sides. Both parties have been accused of committing war crimes, leaving innocent civilians as the primary victims.
Kevin Heller, an advisor to the ICC Prosecutor, has stated that both Israel and Hamas committed international crimes and there is no equivalence in the crimes committed by either side. It’s crucial to hold individuals accountable for their actions under international law, regardless of their role in the conflict.
The latest conflict, which started in May, saw Israel launching airstrikes against Gaza, while Hamas fired rockets into Israel. This back-and-forth resulted in the deaths of 260 Palestinians, including 66 children, and 13 Israelis.
The attacks on civilians, hospitals, and other essential infrastructure are clear violations of international law. The civilian death toll highlights the need for both parties to prioritize protecting civilians rather than targeting them.
International communities, including the ICC, have launched investigations into the conflict, and it’s essential that accountability is achieved for the victims and their families.
It’s time to acknowledge the atrocities committed by both Israel and Hamas and prioritize holding those responsible for their actions accountable. The cycle of violence must come to an end, and civilians must be protected during times of war.
This conflict should serve as a reminder that peace will never be achieved by perpetuating violence. There must be a concerted effort to come together and find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in the region. The lives of innocent civilians depend on it.
