Philadelphia, Pennsylvania- Prominent democrats Senator Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz took to the stage for their first joint address since announcing their presidential campaign alongside each other. Their platform encouraging a “United America,” resonated with the thousands of supporters in the audience, who eagerly cheered on the new ticket.
During the presentation, Senator Harris excited the crowd, saying “We will not be divided by the color of our skin, our gender, who we love or where we are from.” Walz then took to the microphone and mentioned the importance of climate change and economic growth saying “We must address climate change with aggressive action and ensure every American has the opportunity to thrive in a growing economy.”
The former presidential candidate and senator’s remarks about the importance of investing in education and creating economic equity, align with the Governor’s ideas, who has focused on issues of health care and social equity during his tenure.
However, on the issue of gun control, Senator Harris and Governor Walz diverge slightly. Governor Walz spoke about the importance of protecting Second Amendment rights while increasing regulations to ensure public safety, while Senator Harris took a more aggressive stand calling for the ban on assault weapons and stricter background checks.
Despite these minor differences, the duo has garnered much excitement and enthusiasm within the Democratic party, already being labeled the “dream team” congress needs to tackle issues including immigration, civil rights, and healthcare.
As the election draws nearer, voters are looking for a ticket that can work together to promise a better America, one that embodies the nation of many and the power of one. Senator Harris and Governor Walz seem to have quickly established themselves as a leading duo, with the potential to make real change.
